Health and Safety Manager – Elmira, ON

We currently have a need for a Health & Safety Manager. This role will be in our Elmira, ON office.

The Health & Safety Manager will work to establish and report on safety, compliance, hazard identification and reduction of recordable incidents via Trylon and 3rd party reporting structures. Further improving Trylon’s safety performance and documentation by ensuring adherence of all applicable safety standards, policies, procedures, and programs in a manner that promotes a safe working environment for all employees will move Trylon to exceed customer safety requirements and reporting needs.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Ensure all workers possess the required certification to be on site and perform work.
• Identify hazards and control measures for site activities.
• Enhance incident management and other safety protocols based on risk assessments, hazard identification and mitigation plans.
• Ensure Trylon Safety Portal (Site Docs) is up to date, including safety documentation and incident reporting to allow reports to be generated for Trylon and customer reporting purposes.
• Responsible for Field Services employee certification tracking and management – monitor existing company and employee certifications (and ensure current), communications for customers and labour/safety code compliance. Book training as needed.
• Conduct site inspections and audits as required and ensure adherence to company and legislative requirements.
• Provide guidance and assistance in the plant health & safety initiatives and JHSC activities.
• Develop systems and processes to ensure that field personnel are conducting required inspections and reporting as per the relevant company policy and regional safety legislation and regulations.
• Coordinate with head office to develop new health and safety initiatives for the organization that support new and evolving industry standards.
• Prepare and submit all company required reports and metrics (daily, weekly, monthly, annually).
• Work closely with JHSCs and all levels of management to ensure safety compliance at all levels.
• Coordinate with head office to investigate workplace accidents and make recommendations to management for improvement in process or safety.
• Create and maintain a Safety program that promotes a safe environment.
• Ensure risks are understood, documented and eliminated. Introduce a mitigation plan when elimination is not possible.
• Complete safety specific audits and reports. Review all accident, incident and near miss reports and document recommendations and follow-ups.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
• Certification by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP designation).
• Post-secondary education in engineering, safety or risk management desired.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Construction Safety related field.
• Able to read & write in English, complete documents for all required internal and external parties and customers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• A sense of urgency and ability to prioritize to meet company objectives.
• Strong organizational skills including attention to detail, multi-tasking and data management.
• Savvy with technology, able to utilize computers for completing online documents.
• Skilled with the complete MS Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
• Highly developed analytical skills and capable of handling multiple projects.
• Strong Communication and presentation skills – Verbal and written required.
• Self-disciplined and capable of working under pressure – a sense of urgency is required.
• Self-motivated and a self-starter, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional organizational skills including attention to detail, multi-tasking and data management.
• Positive team player who likes working with people and contributing to a positive environment.
• Flexibility and comfort with ambiguity.
• Ability to learn quickly, retain knowledge, and apply within a short period of time.
