Shipping Supervisor – Elmira, ON

We are looking for a Shipping Supervisor in our Elmira, ON manufacturing facility.

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for planning and coordinating the Shipping activities with the departmental Lead Hands and other support personnel, executing and maintaining all Custom product, as well as receiving and galvanizing related objective and operational goals.  Support, implement, maintain and improve all aspects of the Shipping and Receiving team.

You will:

  • Oversee initial, recurrent and cross-training of your team members in all required areas to ensure proper and qualified support in all functions.
  • Deliver performance evaluations in harmony with employee development.
  • Provide the highest level of supervision, training, scheduling, and guidance to all shipping personnel & clearly communicate directions and expectations in a unionized environment.
  • Plan and organize the work of others, determine priorities and meet deadlines while working under pressure and often time sensitive conditions. Prioritize tasks and react decisively when conditions change.
  • Foster positive working relationships. Respond proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints and other employee relations matters.
  • Ensure the cost effectiveness of the Shipping department and all shipping employees, including the control of labour utilization – preventing excess hours, downtime and overtime, and efficient usage of transportation related equipment.
  • Maintain good morale, a positive working environment and working ethnic.
  • Supervise employees engaged in the verification and retention of records for incoming/outgoing shipments and preparation of items for shipment.
  • Plan, organize and supervise the delivery function of the department ensuring timely and efficient delivery of high-quality shipping service.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Manufacturing and other Plant personnel in order to achieve delivery, cost and service quality objectives.
  • Supervision of all requirements to properly and completely ship material to destination with accurate and complete supporting documents.
  • Ensure all processes are being followed to ensure a safe & productive work environment.
  • Actively pursue alternate, better and more cost-efficient means of loading and packaging materials.
  • Expedite material through shop to ensure timely availability for proper packaging and loading for departure.
  • Using Visual and Trylon TSF shipping programs, execute all necessary actions to ensure proper allocation of materials.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation distribution to required personnel so jobs can be picked, packed and shipped on schedule.
  • Responsible for a clean, organized and safe workspace.
  • Oversee incoming shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Ensure all purchase orders are received into the system in a timely manner.

 You will have:

  • High School diploma (minimum)
  • Five (5) years’ experience in shipping/receiving supervision within a unionized (preferably steel manufacturing) environment
  • Familiarity with union contract provisions and requirements
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Time & Attendance systems
  • Able to work shifts (other than days) when required
  • Willing and able to work extra hours as and when required to ensure proper assignment and completion of tasks
  • Working knowledge of standard DOT concepts, regulations, practices and procedures
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
  • A sense of urgency and ability to prioritize to meet company objectives
  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail, multi-tasking and data management
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive team player who likes working with people and contributing to a positive environment
  • Flexibility and comfort with ambiguity – we’re a company going through lots of changes. There is a need to be flexible and move with changes as they unfold
